Yesterday Taylor and I went out to shoot a interview of a DLNR worker named Jerry at the state building. We didn't have the right SD card so our interview wasn't recorded because the camera would say "movie recording automatically stopped". This was because we were using a adapter card. So we rescheduled for today (friday) and we left the state building. There was still time so we wen't over to the fire department because we were going to get some b-roll. Thats not the best part because we were just going to get b-roll of the sign and the flag, but Captain Tamura told us to interview a firefighter named Aaron Hawthorne. So we interviewed him on the rescue. On top of that we got to get b-roll of the firefighters in action 3 times!!! So we were so lucky and we have a interview for today... wish us luck!
Man... I have had probably more than a million time that I've been scared in my life but there was this one time that was truly scary. This was when I went up to Oregon in the summer of 2013 and broke my arm for the second time. This was scary because the obvious was breaking my arm, but it wasn't something clumsy or anything like tripping on flat ground, but it was because I decided to go snow boarding in Mt. Hood for the very first time. I went with my brother and dad but I decided to go because I was like Yolo and when am I ever going to get a chance to snow board, so I went, and my brother and I were racing and all that, but I was doing perfectly fine until the very last slope came and I slowed down and stopped right before going down it. The slope was kind of steep for me. So I waited for the instructor to catch up and he said to follow him so I followed him, and I for got how to slow down so I was going full speed ahead and I fell backwards right on my right arm. Once it happened immediately i was tempted to look at how bad it was but then my brother came and he told me not to look at it. Another reason it was scary was because I was told later that I had a screw in my arm and I was wondering how they got it in there without me knowing and it's hardware in my arm so I was freaking out that it might rust or something like that. Also I thought I would be able to go back to gymnastics. ( I did gymnastics ever since I was 4 years old) So when I was told that I can never do gymnastics I was super shocked and scared that I wouldn't have any thing to do anymore because I dropped soccer to do gymnastics. On top of that I thought I would make it back in time for the summer camp for media but I had surgery and all that fun stuff on the week of summer camp so this snow boarding incident made me definitely ask myself "was it worth it" Yolo is not something to live by trust me. Some of you students don't know who the FinalCutKing. The Final Cut King is Zach King. Trust me he is beyond awesome he has the best shots, sound in f.x. and nat. But you have to check him out. He uses Final Cut pro just like us but he uses it to make short films that are full of special effects. My favorite is the video called "Office Warfare" and If you like action and nerf guns you have got to see this one. The links are all below and they use youtube so you may not see it in school but you have to see it!
This weeks blog will be about the Hanakapiai Rescue project and how its been going. . . I was currently not able to be in media class so I am so glad that Brandon volunteered to help Taylor with interview framing and sound and all that but I think Tay and I are running a little behind.
So I found the interviewers and Tay called them and made arrangements with them. The first time I had her call someone I had her write a little script so that if she got lost she could just look at it and help her along like a cheat sheet. I thought we had everything set until one of the interviewers called back and said that he could only do a phone interview so that changed the whole game plan. So the former interviewer suggested that Taylor and I contact another person in the same occupation as him. So I gave Taylor the contact information and I think she called him but was unable to make a interview so we have to do a little more searching. The good part is that Tay did some transcribing and it looks awesome so when I return to class I think Im going to do Transcribing and start some radios and figure something out but everything seem kind of ok. This project is a little behind but Tay and I will find a way to catchup.
Were back to school and also back to BLOGS!!! I'm so excited to be back to media, but not back to school:( I would say that this week was a so-so week because this year is so much harder compared to last year. For example I the pressure is so overwhelming because I have to set the example of the new students in media and I have a new student to mentor, but you can say it’s worth it because I get to see my friends again.
Setting the example for the new students is harder than I thought. To set the right example You have to be on time with your due dates which is super scary because I have to help my new partner Taylor while also making sure everything on schedule. I think the hardest thing about the whole setting the example part is being the one of the two girls who are returning eighth graders. I’m so happy I get to mentor a new student but I want to make sure I mentor her right because last year I struggled so I had to figure things out and ask Micah guys to help me. So I don’t want Taylor to have go through that, and since I don’t know what or how the whole mentoring thing goes I just have to try and wing it ;) I am so lucky to have a partner like Taylor and I know we are going to do well. Out of this whole week the best part is of course being with your friends. Most of my friends I have seen over summer, but the others I haven't. So school is the best place to be all together. Being Back in school and back to the new CKTV Ohana is full of pressure, and meeting new and old friends, but it's all worth it in the end (-_-)BYYEEE! ! ! |
